CORC Ride For Wildlife Rescue Fundraiser

Mountain bikers unite! On 18 January, Canberra Off-Road Cyclists (CORC) will host a ‘Ride for Wildlife Rescue’ at Stromlo Forest Park to raise some much needed funds for a great cause.

Our aim is to raise funds for WIRES – Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation and the Wildlife Rescue South Coast Inc so that volunteers can provide urgent medical care, rehabilitation, ongoing feeding and watering in burnt areas, and all the myriad of coordination activities required to make the above happen. These fires are not normal, this is unprecedented. Therefore, we need an unprecedented response. This is why we need your support for this fundraising effort.

Proving that local businesses are da bomb, we have had an amazing response from the following folks who are generously donating a range of rad prizes to our fundraising raffle.

Mic Longhurst, Dynamic Motivation
http://www.dynamicmotivation.com.au/
1 x 5 session private skill lesson package valued at $500
2 x 25 ride passes valued at $200 each

Mick will also run the shuttle bus for free for the first 24 people (first in best dressed) for those that aren’t so keen on riding up, but want to shred down. In addition, any cash rides people do on the bus that day ($10 per ride) will be donated directly to the fundraising.

Tickets for the raffle:

The aim of the ride is to raise funds for wildlife affected by the bushfires. Our two chosen charities are WIRES – Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation and Wildlife Rescue South Coast Inc. We have chosen these two as they offer the best balance between national and local level support. We are aware that most you spend a lot of time on the south coast and would want strong local support in that area.

We are raising funds via a raffle, which will be drawn at 11:30am on the day – but you don’t need to be there to have a chance! Simply make a donation beforehand and your name will go into the draw, or alternatively you can purchase tickets on the day. If you plan on buying tickets on the day please bring cash. The Handlebar will be open.

1 ticket = $30

2 tickets = $50

3 tickets = $70

We ask you to please be generous – we know you’ve dropped more than that on a dropper post people!

There will be two methods of payment – 1.) cash and 2.) online to a charity site (watch this space in the coming days)

How will the day work?

What: Rock up and have a coffee and a chat with your mates – but most importantly buy your tickets! We donate then ride. Raffle to be drawn at 11:30am (tickets will be available throughout this time)

When: January 18th, from 8:30am, riding out at 9:00am. Back to The Handlebar at 11:00am for the draw.

If you would like more info on WIRES, see here https://www.wires.org.au/

We haven’t finalised the ride route, but were thinking trunk climb- pork barrel – deep creek- return via breakout. Depending on numbers, we’ll set off in waves and possible offer different routes (TBC). This IS NOT A RACE – it is a social ride and you accept full responsibility for your actions. Ride to your abilities at your pace.

Watch this space for further updates, including the online fundraising method.

We look forward to seeing you on the day. Remember to share this event and spread the word to any mountain bikers you know – no matter where they are located
