The Willo
March 1, 2020
Welcome to the 10th Willo, to be held on Sunday 1 March 2020
The Willo Enduro is a race unlike any other. Riders come to this event, not so much for personal gain, but for the memory of James. The race is an annual reminder to all riders of the joys of mountain biking and the impact James had on the sport. It is an emotional race for some, from the organisers who knew James closely and to some of his closest friends riding in the Elite category.
Every race participant, however, will be instantly taken by the relaxed and friendly nature of the race, which in fact does reflect on James and the camaraderie that mountain biking brings for all.
The Willo legacy continues
The Willo has become one of the top mountain bike marathons on the Australian cycling racing calendars and an annual reminder to all riders of the joys of mountain biking as well as the impact James had on the sport. The Willo was set up in honour of James by his aunt Meg Patey and is now managed by Rocky Trail Entertainment under her patronage.
The lap-based classic marathon race will feature the popular mountain bike network in the Sparrow Hill and we are bringing back the original 25 km circuit with loads of singletrail goodness. There are various distance classifications across adult and junior age groups – for many young athletes this race will continue to provide the opportunity to experience their first thrill of racing. Proceeds from the event support junior development with annual training camps held.
The event has been known for its friendly vibe encouraging a strong sense of camaraderie amongst all riders. It attracts elite riders as well as riders from all levels and ages.
