CORC Women’s Skills Development program – Jan 2018

CORC is pleased to announce the Jan 2018 skills development course.
Starting: Last week of January 2018
What: 6 week course for women mountain bikers. Sessions will be 1.5 hours
Who for: This program is only available to men aged 18 and over
Session times: Wednesdays at 6pm
Difficulty level: First timers to Advanced
You will be grouped by your responses on the registration questionnaire. Coaches will then group riders by ability at the first session. Courses will then be tailored to those in each group.
Courses will be held concurrently, so participants may be able to move across groups if necessary.
Where: Mount Stromlo.
Ratio: 1 coach to 5 participants.
Participants MUST be able to attend the first 2 sessions of the course
Coaches will offer make up sessions if sessions are cancelled due to weather.
It will be at the discretion of each coach whether to offer a make up session due to illness/injury.
Complimentary CORC racing
All participants will be given up to three free entries into local CORC XC races during 2018
Mountain Biking Australia Licence
All participants will need to have a valid MTBA licence. Participants may register for a free 2 month trial membership prior to the course commencing.
Participants will be reimbursed the full fee up to 7 days prior to the course. Cancellations within 7 days may receive reimbursement, if possible at the discretion of the organisers.
Mountain biking skills level descriptors
On registering, you will be asked to rate your CURRENT level on the basis of the following:
First time riding single track
Ride easier green single track (e.g. Stromlo beginner loop – Brittle gums, fenceline, rascals)
Can ride easier green single track, starting to ride harder green single track (e.g. Stromlo –
emu run, ABC switch backs, skyline, luge)
I am off my seat when I descend
Can ride most blue trails (e.g. Stromlo blue tongue, heartbreaker, pork barrel) but don’t ride
some technical features.
Starting to do (or ready to learn) some small jumps (e.g. Stromlo Duffy descent table tops)
Starting to do (or ready to learn) manoeuvres, e.g. front wheel lift and bunny hop
Riding blue trails (e.g. Stromlo blue tongue, heartbreaker, pork barrel, Magpie rock, slick
Starting to ride black trails (e.g. Stromlo Blood rock, Stromlo downhill trails) but don’t ride
some technical features.
Can ride rock rolls (e.g. Stromlo Pork Barrel rock roll).
Doing small to medium jumps (e.g. Stromlo Duffy descent table tops, double dissolution
table tops) and small to medium drops (e.g. Stromlo Duffy descent drop)
Can front wheel lift over logs and bunny hop
Confidently riding bermed and off-camber corners
Can climb and descend advanced blue trails (e.g. Stromlo slick rock, magpie) and most
black trails (e.g. Stromlo blood rock, Stromlo downhill trails)
Can do high speed bermed and off-camber corners
Can do bigger jumps (e.g. Stromlo top of pork barrel doubles) and drops (e.g. pork barrel
and downhill trail drops)
Can ride steep rock rolls and steep terrain
Can manual, wheelie
As advanced but can ride black and double black trails (e.g. Stromlo cardiac arrest,
hammerhead, black snake climb, world cup downhill).
